Traveling To Cu Lao Cau

Cu Lao Cau Island or Hon Cau Island is the name of a small island in Tuy Phong District, Binh Thuan Province, about 110km northeast of Phan Thiet City. The closest island is about 10 km;  the length of this beautiful island is 1.5 km; the largest is less than 800 m. The island is extremely pristine with blue sea water, surrounded by thousands of rocks of different color and shape, completely separated from the world of technology because there is no electricity, only solar energy. Freshwater is just from rainwater sources or the Fairy Tale well.



The weather here is divided into two distinct seasons: the south and the Northwind. Between January and June of the lunar year, the weather is good, many boats moored over the island. To get to Cu Lao Cau, take a boat to go to Lien Huong town, Phuoc The fishing port or Ca Na town. Please contact the port owner prior to your arrival in port. If you take Vietnam private tours and want to experience the feeling of floating at sea, you can go by boat of fishermen.

From the fishing port, if you take the ship Song En, it takes about 45 minutes to go to the island. If you take a wooden boat,  it will take about 2-3 hours, depending on whether the sea is passive or not.

Cu Lao Cau has no guesthouse or hotel, only two cafes of Tu Huu and Uncle Ba. You can order in advance or go to the island or buy seafood, vegetables, and fruits.

Since there are no guesthouses on the island, if the group travels to a few people, they can ask for a stay in the home of uncle Tu Huu and uncle Ba. If you go to large group, bring sleeping bags, camping tents, bring fresh water about 4 liters for each person.

One of the characteristics of Hon Cau is that the surrounding water has the presence of typical tropical marine ecosystems, such as coral reefs and seagrass beds which is great biodiversity value. On the island, there is a temple of Nam Hai for fishermen dropping in worshiping fish annual festival on the full moon in April.

Around the island, there are many kinds of seafood, so if you like adventure, you can equip yourself with a fishing rod and some baits to find food by yourself or go along the coast to catch cuffs to cook soup. It is so great to set fire to the camp at night and eat the soup made by yourself.

They are Song Bien of Mr. Tu Huu which is mentioned above, cooks are really delicious. He is very nice, friendly and enthusiastic. He is willing to be your tour guide for the whole day on this island because he loves this area the most.

The specialties that you should try is snail; the price is only about 50.000VND / kg. I thought this dish is only in Cu Lao Cham or Con Dao, however, we can find them here quite much; it is even cheaper than the other. Moon Crab, a kind of crab with spots on his cover. Many people think that it is as good as Huynh crabs, however,  its price is several times cheaper. Here also has scallops scattered peanuts, delicious and strange.
